Living the Quran

Al-Rahman (The Merciful)
Chapter 55: Verse 6

And the herbs and the trees both bow in adoration.

Commentary:

Think of the wisdom of the Gentle, the All-Knowing when He willed the leaves to be an adornment to trees, a covering and shelter to fruits, and a protection to them from any destruction that may interrupt their ripeness! Regard how the leaves protect a frail budding fruit from drying! After a tree is fruitless, the leaves still protect the weak twigs from heat. When it is winter, and sunlight is no longer harmful to boughs and twigs, the Lord strips the tree of its leaves, and leaves it bare, in preparation for clothing it again with a fresh, nicer apparel.

So glory be to the Lord of the world Who knows the falling place and budding place of each and every leaf; no leaf grows, nor does it fall without His notice. If humans realized, while watching those leaves in their variety and multiplicity, that they glorified the Lord, they would discover aspects of their charm that they had not been aware of; they would perceive them with new senses, and would realize that they were created for a noble purpose, not in vain!

Understanding the Prophet's Life

The Scholar, The Soldier, The Rich

Since there are two ingredients essential to all good things: that they should be intended for God's sake, and that they should conform to the Sacred Law, this must apply equally in speech and action, to good words and good works, to matters of knowledge and to matters of worship.

It is confirmed in an authentic narration that the Prophet, on him be peace, said:
"The first of three to fuel the fire of Hell is a man who studies and teaches and reads the Quran and has it read, but all so that people will say: ' He is a scholar and a Quran reader.' Then a man who fights and struggles so that people will say: 'He is courageous and brave.' Then a man who gives alms and gifts so that people will say: 'He is generous and openhanded.'"

Message for Successful Living

[Based on the advices given by Ustadh Khurram Murad, may Allah have mercy on his soul, to his family in his last will.]

Free yourself from Miserliness and Meanness of the Heart

Free yourself from miserliness and meanness of the heart. The more humble and polite you are, the more strongly will you believe that everything belongs to Allah and that whatever you give now shall be returned in the form of a much greater reward.

The more you believe that if you were to stop charity it would come to haunt you, the easier will it be for you to be magnanimous. The more your heart is filled with the Greatness of Allah, the more generous your heart will become. The greater your ability to negate ego, status, arrogance, vanity, wealth, and the more you feel that you have not discharged your responsibilities to the full - the happier you will become.

Give away your wealth today, give it away readily, sacrifice your self-esteem, cleanse yourself of the love of this world and Allah will expand your heart. He shall make you so benevolent that you will have made yourself deserving of the Paradise whose expanse will embrace the heavens and the earth.
