Living \r\n the Quran

Al-Rad \r\n (The Thunder)
\r\n Chapter 13: Verse 4

\r\n

Neighbouring \r\n Lands
\r\n
"And on the earth there are \r\n many tracts of land neighbouring each other."

\r\n

God has caused the various regions of the \r\n world to differ from one another despite their contiguity. \r\n These regions differ in many respects - in their configuration, in their \r\n colour, in their component elements, in their characteristics, properties \r\n and potentialities, in the produce which they yield and in the chemical \r\n and mineral deposits which are hidden under their surface.

\r\n

The variation and diversity thus found abounds \r\n in wisdom and leads to countless benefits. Let us disregard \r\n for a moment the benefits inherent in this diversity in respect of other \r\n species of creation and simply consider the benefits which accrue to human \r\n beings. In this regard it will be noted that there is a very close correspondence \r\n between the diverse interests and purposes of man and the diversity which \r\n characterizes the different regions of the world. The \r\n result of all this is manifest in the growth and efflorescence of human \r\n culture and civilization.

\r\n

It would be bold and impetuous for anyone to brand all this as the outcome \r\n of mere coincidence. On the contrary, common sense suggests that all this \r\n indubitably represents the careful and benevolent planning of the All-Wise \r\n Creator.

Umar Cries

\r\n

One day Umar ibn al-Khattab came into the house of the Prophet to find \r\n him lying on a simple mattress which left \r\n its marks on his body. Umar started to sob.

\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
'Why are you crying, O Umar', said the Prophet.
\r\n 'I thought of Caesar and Chosroes sitting on thrones of gold, wearing \r\n silk. And you are the messenger of God, yet here you are sitting on \r\n this simple mattress.'
\r\n 'O Umar', said the Prophet, 'are you not \r\n satisfied that they have this world and we have the next?'
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n

So simple and austere were his living habits that he \r\n went half-hungry most of the time. Aishah reported that \r\n for three consecutive nights, a fire was not kindled in the homes of \r\n the Prophet because there was nothing to be cooked. When asked how they \r\n managed, she said they depended on water and dates (the two blacks).

\r\n

Where is the basis for the image of a self-indulgent, luxury-loving \r\n ruler with his 'harem' which some critics of the Prophet have contrived \r\n to draw for him?

You know You are a Victim of Peer \r\n Pressure when….

\r\n

Most teenagers fall into flirting, clubbing, smoking, cursing, cheating, \r\n stealing, bullying, gambling, drinking, drugs, pornography and other \r\n immoral practices due to negative peer pressure. You know you are \r\n a victim of this pressure when you:

\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
    \r\n
  • \r\n
    \r\n
    are curious to try something new \r\n because "everyone's doing it";
    \r\n
    \r\n
  • \r\n
  • \r\n
    \r\n
    want to be liked, to fit in, to \r\n look cool;
    \r\n
    \r\n
  • \r\n
  • \r\n
    \r\n
    worry that others will think you \r\n are weird or a coward if you resist;
    \r\n
    \r\n
  • \r\n
  • \r\n
    \r\n
    say and do things in the group \r\n which you would not do on your own;
    \r\n
    \r\n
  • \r\n
  • \r\n
    \r\n
    wish your parents should stay \r\n out of your ‘social life’;
    \r\n
    \r\n
  • \r\n
  • \r\n
    \r\n
    do something without questioning \r\n the outcome.
