Al-Imran \r\n (The House of Imran)
\r\n Chapter 3: Verse 26

The \r\n Sovereign Of All Dominion
\r\n Say: "Lord, Sovereign of all dominion, \r\n You grant dominion to whom You will and take dominion away from whom You \r\n will. You exalt whom You will and abase whom You will. In Your hand is \r\n all that is good. You are able to do all things."

This verse expresses the natural result of the oneness \r\n of God. Since there is only a single deity, He is then the only Master, \r\n "the Sovereign of all dominion" Who has no partners. He gives \r\n whatever portion He wishes of His dominion to whomever He wants of His \r\n servants. What is given becomes simply like \r\n a borrowed article. Its owner retains his absolute right \r\n of taking it back whenever he wants. No one, then, has any claim of original \r\n dominion giving him the right of absolute power. It is simply a received \r\n dominion, subject to the terms and conditions stipulated by the original \r\n Sovereign. If the recipient behaves in any way which constitutes a violation \r\n of these conditions, his action is invalid. Believers \r\n have a duty to stop him from that violation in this life. \r\n In the life to come, he will have to account for his violation of the \r\n terms stipulated by the original Sovereign.

He is also the One Who exalts whom He wills and abases \r\n whom He wills. He needs no one to ratify His judgement. No one grants \r\n protection against the will of God, and no one has the power to prevent \r\n His will taking its full course. His power \r\n is absolute and His control is total.

The authority of God ensures the realisation of all goodness. \r\n He exercises it with justice. \r\n When He gives dominion to anyone or takes it away from him, He does so \r\n with justice. Similarly, it is with justice that He exalts or abases any \r\n of His servants. This ensures real goodness, in all situations.

Helping \r\n with housework

Many men think that housework is beneath \r\n them, and some of them think that it will undermine their status and position \r\n if they help their wives with this work.

Imam Ahmed reported in his Musnad, the Messenger of Allah, \r\n peace be upon him, used to “sew his \r\n own clothes, mend his own shoes and do whatever other work men do in their \r\n homes.”

This was said by his wife Aisha, when she was asked about \r\n what the Messenger of Allah used to do in his house. In another narration, \r\n she said: “He was like any other human \r\n being: he would clean his clothes, milk his ewe and serve himself.”

In yet another narration reported in Sahih Bukhari, a \r\n more general description of his involvement at home is available. The \r\n Mother of Believer, Aisha narrates, “He \r\n used to serve his family, then when the time for prayer came, he would \r\n go out to pray.”

If we revive this example in our lives, we would at least \r\n achieve a few things:
\r\n 1. we would be following the example of \r\n the Prophet
\r\n 2. we would be bringing our families closer \r\n together & helping our wives
\r\n 3. we would inject more humility into our \r\n lives & stave of arrogance.

It is commonplace nowadays to hear of men who demand food \r\n instantly from their wives when they get home. The pot might be on the \r\n stove and the baby screaming to be fed. Yet, they do not even pick up \r\n the child or show patience and wait a little while for the food. Let these \r\n ahadeeth be a reminder and a lesson for all of us.

These lessons are also applicable in the case of siblings \r\n helping out each other, especially in the month of fasting. Help out your \r\n family in its preparation for Suhur and Iftar.
