Surah al-Qadr (The \r\n Power)
\r\n Chapter 97: Verses 1-5

\r\n
\r\n

\"Verily, We have sent it (Quran) down in the Night of Al-Qadr \r\n (Power).
\r\n And What will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr is?
\r\n The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.
\r\n Therein descend the angels and the Spirit (Ruh) by their Lord's \r\n permission with every matter.
\r\n In it there is peace until the appearance of dawn.
\"

\r\n

Commentary:

\r\n

The theme of this \r\n chapter of the Quran is to acquaint us with the importance of the \r\n Quran and the role of the Night of Al-Qadr, which falls in \r\n the last ten nights of Ramadan, plays in connecting us with Allah. \r\n Al-Qadr could be translated in several ways, all of which are \r\n interrelated in meaning: Power, Decree, Glory, Destiny, etc.
\r\n

\r\n
Allah begins by stating that \r\n He has sent the Quran down during the Night of Al-Qadr, and \r\n it is a blessed night. The fact that this chapter is placed, in the \r\n arrangement of the Quran, right after the chapter \"Al-'Alaq\", \r\n the first five verses of which began the process of revelation to \r\n the Prophet Muhammad in the cave Hira, explains that this book \r\n was sent down in a destiny-making night that changed the future of \r\n humanity!

\r\n

The Night of Decree \r\n has two implications: First, it is the night during which the \r\n destinies of people and the Allah's creation are decided. It is \r\n also the night when the times of death and provisions are measured \r\n out, as Allah says about this night in another chapter: \"Therein \r\n is decreed every matter of decree.\" [44:4] In other words, \r\n it is not an ordinary night, but a night in which new decisions are \r\n being made and the relationships of the believers with Allah strengthened \r\n and refreshed.

\r\n

No wonder, Allah then \r\n emphasizes its importance in the following manner, \"The Night \r\n of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.\" And as the Prophet \r\n (peace be upon him) once said, \"...Whoever is deprived of its \r\n good, then he has truly been deprived!\" [Ahmed and \r\n An-Nasaai]. Not only that, this night can surely change our \r\n life forever, as the Prophet (pbuh) further says, \"Whoever stands \r\n (in prayer) during the Night of Al-Qadr with faith and expecting reward \r\n (from Allah), he will be forgiven for his previous sins.\" \r\n [Muslim]

\r\n

Second, the revelation \r\n of this Book and its revolutionary message is not merely the revelation \r\n of a book, only to be used for academic study or recited on certain \r\n occasions, but this revelation is an event that will change the destiny \r\n of not only the Arabia, but of the entire world!

\r\n

Allah \r\n concludes by outlining some signs of this Night: when the angels, \r\n peace, and blessings descend on earth, surrounding the believers. \r\n In fact, as Mujahid (Rahimahullah) said,  \"[On this \r\n Night] Peace is concerning every matter. It is peace and security \r\n because Shaytan will not be able to do any evil or any harm on this \r\n night.\"

Imam Raghib al-Isfihani mentions \r\n the following three benefits of a sincere Tawbah \r\n (repentance) in Adh-Dhari'ah:
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n

      \r\n
      \r\n
      \r\n
      \r\n
      \r\n
It patches up your \r\n faults and identifies the devil's points of entry to \r\n the human heart. This makes the \r\n repenting person more aware of evil around him or her.

      \r\n
      \r\n
      \r\n
You, the repenting \r\n person, become embarrassed and are thus overcome with \r\n fear. You approach the door of your \r\n Merciful Lord with humbleness and apprehension.

15- Not practising what one preaches: \r\n Allah says: “O you who believe! \r\n Why do you say that which you do not do? Most hateful is it with \r\n Allah that you say that which you do not do.” [al-Saff \r\n 61:2-3]. No doubt this is a kind \r\n of hypocrisy, and the person whose deeds do not match his words \r\n is blameworthy before Allah and despicable in the eyes of his \r\n fellow man. The people of Hellfire will soon discover the reality \r\n of the one who enjoins good but does not do it, and forbids evil, \r\n but does it himself.

[16 \r\n THINGS YOU CAN DO ON THE NIGHT OF POWER!]

\r\n
\r\n

Here are some tips \r\n on things we can do on the Night of Power and the time \r\n before and after it. This list is a summary of an \r\n insightful article on www.SoundVision.com. \r\n We strongly recommend you to visit the link below and \r\n benefit from the whole article.
\r\n

\r\n
    \r\n
  1. \r\n
Take \r\n a vacation for Allah: We take a break from our \r\n jobs for almost everything in life. Why not this \r\n time to focus on worshiping and thanking our Creator. \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  2. \r\n
Do Itikaf: \r\n It was a practice of the Prophet to spend the \r\n last ten days and nights of Ramadan in the Masjid \r\n for Itikaf, which involves people performing \r\n various forms of Dhikr (the remembrance of \r\n Allah), doing extra Prayers, and recitation and \r\n study of the Quran.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  3. \r\n
Make \r\n this special Dua: Aisha, may Allah be \r\n pleased with her, said: I asked the Messenger of \r\n Allah: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night  \r\n the night of al-Qadr is, what should I say \r\n during it?' He said: 'Say: O Allah, You are pardoning \r\n and You love to pardon, so pardon me.' \"(Ahmad, \r\n Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi). The transliteration of \r\n this supplication is \"Allahumma innaka `afuwwun \r\n tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee\"
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  4. \r\n
Recite the Quran: \r\n Perhaps you can choose Surahs or passages from \r\n the Quran which you have heard in Tarawih \r\n Prayer this Ramadan to recite.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  5. \r\n
Reflect \r\n on the meaning of the Quran: Choose the latest \r\n Surah or Surahs you've heard in Tarawih and \r\n read their translation and Tafseer. Then \r\n think deeply about their meaning and how it affects \r\n you on a personal level.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  6. \r\n
Get your sins \r\n wiped out: Pray some extra/voluntary Salah. \r\n Don't just pray using the shorter Surahs that you \r\n know. Try to make your prayers longer, deeper and \r\n meaningful. Read the translation and explanation \r\n of the Surahs you know and then pray reciting these \r\n Surahs, carefully reflecting on the meaning while \r\n you pray.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  7. \r\n
Make \r\n a personal Dua list: Ask yourself what \r\n you really want from Allah. Make a list of each \r\n and everything, no matter how small or how big it \r\n is, whether it deals with this world or not. Allah \r\n loves to hear from us. Once this list is ready, \r\n ask Allah to give you those things and plan your \r\n efforts in getting those things in the future.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  8. \r\n
Evaluate yourself: \r\n Do an evaluation of where you are and where \r\n you are going. Let this evaluation lead you to feel \r\n happiness for the good you have done and remorse \r\n for the bad you have done. This latter feeling should \r\n make it easier to seek Allah's sincere forgiveness \r\n when making the Dua mentioned in tip #3 above. \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  9. \r\n
Make \r\n long, sincere and deep Duas: One of the \r\n best times to do this is during the last part of \r\n the night. For instance, wake up one hour before \r\n Suhoor time to ask Allah for anything and \r\n everything you want that is permissible. This can \r\n be done using the Duas of the Sunnah, \r\n but also Dua in your own language, with sincerity \r\n and conviction.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  10. \r\n
Memorize a different \r\n Dua every night: They don't have to be \r\n long. They can be just one line. And be sure to \r\n know what they mean generally at least. You can \r\n put them on index cards (and glance at them during \r\n work, while driving, waiting in line, etc.) Then \r\n practice them at night in prayer.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  11. \r\n
Have \r\n Iftar with the family: If you've spent Iftar \r\n time on weekdays in your cubicle at work alone with \r\n a couple of dates, now is the last few days you'll \r\n have this Ramadan to spend with your family. Use \r\n it wisely.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  12. \r\n
Take the family \r\n to Tarawih: Have your spouse and kids \r\n missed Tarawih most of Ramadan because you \r\n weren't there to drive them to the Masjid, which \r\n is too far away to walk to? If so, bring everyone \r\n for Tarawih in these last ten nights at least. \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  13. \r\n
Attend \r\n the Dua after the completion of Quran recitation: \r\n Almost all Masjids where the Imam aims to finish \r\n an entire reading of the Quran in Tarawih \r\n prayers in Ramadan, will be completing their recitation \r\n in these last ten nights. Attend this particular \r\n night's Tarawih prayer with your family. \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  14. \r\n
Finish reading \r\n a book on the Prophet: Read about the Prophet's \r\n life, which can increase your love for him and Islam \r\n by seeing how much he struggled for Allah's sake. \r\n It may inspire you to push yourself even harder \r\n during these last ten nights. This community is \r\n built on sacrifice.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  15. \r\n
Plan \r\n for the next year: Once you've done a self-evaluation, \r\n you can plan on where you want to go, at least in \r\n the next 12 months. Laylatul Qadr is a great \r\n night to be thinking about this (without taking \r\n away from your worship), since you'll Insha Allah, \r\n be in a more contemplative state.
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n \r\n
  16. \r\n
To do list for \r\n the Night of Power: Make a to do checklist for \r\n each odd Night of these last ten days. This should \r\n define how you would like your night to be used. \r\n Pick things from this list and define the sequence \r\n you would like to do things in. This will help you \r\n avoid wasting your time in unproductive chats which \r\n are common in the festive atmosphere of Masjids \r\n at the Night of Power.
